Remote and Rural Medicine

Medical practitioners practicing in regional areas often don’t have access to high-performance imaging technology due to tight budgets and their remote location.

Many must rely on developing outstanding physical examination skills to treat patients without the assistance of an ultrasound system to support and strengthen their diagnosis.

The Signos Personal Ultrasound device is now giving remote and rural clinicians a cost-effective opportunity to significantly improve their physical examinations of patients.

Following introductory ultrasound training, remote and rural medical practitioners can confidently perform easy-to-learn clinical applications in everyday practice, including:

  • Bladder assessment before catheterization;
  • Pleural effusion assessment for determining thoracentesis puncture site;
  • Assessment of lungs to rule out pneumothorax;
  • Ascites assessment for determining paracentesis puncture site;
  • Foreign body and implanon localization; and
  • Assessment of fetal presentation in late pregnancy.

With intermediate and advanced ultrasound training physicians can extend their skills to include:

  • Trauma assessment (e-FAST scanning); and
  • Measurement of the aorta to determine abdominal aortic aneurysm risk.
